Editing
You invariably open a book, brochure or catalogue that is attractive and of interest. You may even flip through the pages, reading snippets here and there. What aspects engage your interest? What features detract from the inital appeal and make you put it down, throw it away and move on?
You may not notice if it is well edited but you will certainly be jolted by obvious errors such as:
- Facts may be wrong,
- Details inconsistent,
- Spelling and punctuation variable,
- Structure or sequence of information is untidy,
- Contradictory or irrational content,
- Illustrations and captions inappropriate or wrongly matched ,
- Text just carelessly proofread.
Errors such as these simply detract the reader and seriously impact on the reputation of your business.
Engaging an editor ensures all elements of a piece of communications are professionally presented, logically organised and correct. The objective is to maximise the effect of the written piece whilst respecting and maintaining the authors intention.
